As a man who always has a sort of nostalgic sentiment, the military training was not some sort of sweet memory, nor is it an excruciating experience. The training officer was not too harsh towards us, but we did not have some special bonds even though when we left the military school, some girls shed tears. Now for the new freshmen in China, military training is mandatory. We cannot say that the original purpose of military training introduced in 1990 after the Tiananmen protest was meant to brainwash the promising young people, but more and more scandalous incidents reveal that the military training should not be indispensable especially when it becomes a business such as the case in Long Shan. Some people may say that the children in China are spoiled, and the military training can instill discipline and spirit to endure hardness to them. Perhaps, the new generation of young Chinese does grow up in honey jar. But they have common sense and cannot tolerate the brutality in the name of discipline and honor.
